I had basically the same experience, not much violence -- although there was one fight in eighth grade. My mom made me fight that chick. Mostly I was ignored and somewhat taunted. So, so glad high school is over. Happy Holidays!

@Solomon Damnation on the typo, but many thanks. It’s correct now. Yeah, I’d love to give her just one shove and then tell her, in a menacing whisper, that if there’s a next time I’ll rip her nose off her face. That would make me feel good.

@Liz It’s hard when they’re that young to find the right balance. I don’t want my kid to slap her around (even if it would make both of us feel better) but I really wish she could see that the other chick really is insecure. I suppose that concept is too far ahead of a nine-year-old. This definitely pulls up old crap for me from school. If I had been able to let it roll off I think I would have been happier.

@Lin I know! There are so many cartoons out there that make me say the same thing — where are the parents?!

I’m going to have to watch the show again. Forgive me Lin, it’s been at least 25 years since I last watched it. I always hated the way Rudolph’s voice sounded like he had a cold. Gah that drove me nuts. I actually hated on him a little bit because of it. Very loving, I know.

The whole dissection of the show sounds most amusing and I now have to find it on YouTube.

@Bumbles Is this the show that has that weird town that’s all gray with the jerk of a mayor? Is that the city that repents in the end? Man I’ve got to watch this thing again. Now that I think about it, it would be difficult either way — to make a show that was just about the lyrics (not enough action) or to make a song that had all of the side stories. Although it would be a wild song if they could do it.

Sort of like Elton John’s song Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding. It’s about 11 minutes and is really two songs in one — an instrumental (that rocks out eventually) and then a song with lyrics.

I wonder if that is what happened. However, I could see the writers thinking it was all valid because the ends justified the means. And I guess, if I were to get into it, it’s true to the song lyrics, right?

I know, that’s pretty much a first. I was actually eating a bowl of cereal at the table and saw the song book. Naturally, I was bored while I was eating, so I read the lyrics…

Look at you, you gazelle, heading up those stairs. I did not remember that quote, but I like it. Definitely I believe Santa was using Rudolph, plain and simple.

It is hard trying to let your kid fight her own battles. Thankfully we haven’t gotten into any physical altercations. I hope we never have to do that because my hook shot is rusty.

Jeez. I will never be able to listen to that song again without remembering all the mean girls at my school as a kid. Who mostly ignored me, but that was bad enough.

I always felt so mad at Santa from the Rudolph show. What values is HE teaching our kids? Punish those who are different . . . UNTIL you need a favor.

And once again, I’m with Solomon. Taking shit from people gets you nowhere. But neither does pitching a hissy fit.

Slamming against the lockers. Those are good memories. I know it’s a tad twisted but I always thought it was hilarious when a girl fight broke out and a girl’s head got slammed against the locker while spurting grammatically incorrect obscenities. Small joy of living in a hick town.
