My kid’s favorite inventions
8 VIPs have spoken »I have some treats today! I found my oldest kid’s notebook from her fifth grade English class. Apparently she had to come up with some inventions throughout the school year.
Here are three of them.
Storytelling Sling
My favorite invention is the storytelling sling. I like this because it prevents you from having to tell the same story over and over again when you break your arm. It has a picture on the front of the sling.
Some of the choices are:
“I got hit by a soccer ball,”
“I was in a parachuting accident,” and
“I got chased by a bull.”
I think they are really cool and funny.
The Hairy Hoodie
The invention I picked this time is the Hairy Hoodie. It’s a gray sweatshirt with a pink wig sewn onto the hood.
Here’s the description: The Hairy Hoodie employs a unique “two-do” design. Wear it down for your ordinary-you look; wear it up for your new-do look.
Head-Mounted Drum
This is ANOTHER one of my favorite inventions — the head-mounted drum.
It’s perfect for babies.

I don’t know what 5th grade is, but I like the idea of a Hairy Hoodie. You could have some fun with that!

I love the fact that the hoodie is gray; it seems that one has no color choices. However, I just thought of this, maybe that’s because gray is a neutral color and goes with everything.
I wonder if fifth grade is the equivalent of primary school over there. It was the school year when she was 10 and then turned 11 before the end of the year.
Oh, dear. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, does it? Love them ALL. Head-mounted drum. OMG. For babies. OMG again.

It’s crazy what they learn from their parents, isn’t it? I always take credit for the fun stuff and then say those bad habits must come from my husband’s side of the family.
I have to admit I loved the head-mounted drum as well. Seriously laughed my head off when I read that one.
Ok, I’m a dolt. I admit (embrace) it. Thus, I must ask what a head mounted drum is. Does it involve broccoli? If not, I’m left without a clue.

I admire how you embrace your doltdom. I’m going to start saying that; normally I say “I own it,” but now I shall say “I embrace it.”
Moving on, this is how I envision it: the drum would be strapped to the kid’s head, sort of like a bongo facing out, so every time the baby’s wobbly head hit the ground, wall, chair, etc. (since the neck muscles are non-existent) the drum would bong.
No need for drumsticks.
You are hysterical. Just hysterical.

Thank you; thankyouverymuch!
I love that smart little lady!
She has some good qualities, now that you mention it.
I kid.
ROFL for the head-mounted drum! :-D

Thank you kindly, bing, and welcome to the VIP Lounge!
Sorry I’m late. I think the choice of grey for the hoodie is along the lines of Henry Ford “You can have your hoodie any colour you like as long as it’s grey” She’s on the path to greatness….

Nice, Anji! I’ve never heard that quote before.
Cardiogirl — I’m back today to tell you that I thought of the head-mounted drum yesterday while driving home from work. It just randomly popped into my head and I laughed all over again.
I wanted you to know that what you write (and your daughter’s humor) really stuck with me. I wanted to say that these little smiles I get from reading your and other blogs are so important to me now, since it’s been tough since my dad died. Every time I have a little laugh, it feels like a little normal is coming back.
Just wanted to say thanks.

Wow, Kathy; I’m so glad I could make you smile. Well, my kid made you smile. Isn’t funny the things that rattle around inside your noggin only to pop up at a random moment.
Sending more chuckling vibes your way.
