And the winner is … Dale!
I’ve got to say, it was tight. But my peeps (and Les’ peeps, too!) came through and voted. The polls were neck and neck for a while and, when voting closed Monday morning, the winner emerged. By one vote.
See? Your vote does count.
The winning caption was written by that Canadian minx Dale of Passion of the Dale.

Even if you didn’t win, you can still buy your own copy of Natalie d’Arbeloff’s “The God Interviews.”
Congratulations Dale and thank you Natalie and Les for being such good, patient sports. Dale, I am going to venture out to the post office later today with my kid to mail your book.
Now Les informs me there is some sort of postal animal in Canada called “GST” and I should label the envelope “Gift” to avoid capture and tagging by said postal animal. I shall do my best and report back should any casualties occur.
Barring that, you will hopefully be enjoying your new book within a week or so. Although there is a border involved, so if it takes longer than a week we’ll blame it on the post office, okay?
I thought I could get out of here without a side note, but I was wrong. I did a quick search to see just what this GST thing is — it’s a Goods and Service Tax.
I was lured in by an article about how this tax dropped from about 13.5% to 5% and that some stores in Canada are not really passing the savings on to the customer. For instance, after this tax drop perhaps a penny or two was saved on a coffee from Starbucks.
But at that site, I saw a photo that was like a train wreck. And before I knew it I was mesmerized and disgusted all at the same time. I had to click on it (holds head in hands and screams an agonizing wail).

The story is about orthopedic shoe inserts.
Yes, shoe inserts.
But I couldn’t get past those gnarly red toenails.
This is the standard for foot models? Maybe in Canada, but not here in the US.
Those toes do not pass go here at the Cardiogirl Empire. Yuck.
Okay, after a cursory search I stand corrected. Apparently this is the standard here in the US when it comes to a foot (and hand) model.

Those digits over there on the right belong to Ellen Sirot who is billed as the “World’s Most Famous Foot Model.”
(Coughs) I’m not a fan of feet and toes in general.
And hers don’t seem that superior to the red Canadian toes. Although, I’m not positive those red toenails belong to a Canuck. Let me clarify that I spotted them on a Canadian website. So maybe those toes are from the States after all.
I just found them unpleasant and then I had to see if there was, indeed, a market for hand and foot models. Apparently there is.
Oh, right. Back to the point.
Congratulations Dale, I hope we get the book through without that nasty tax.
