The Big “Extra Copy” Giveaway Caption Contest

spiritual low top

As you know, I’ve been in the middle of an existential/spiritual/life crisis for a while now. I’m trying to answer the Big Questions: trying to understand what God wants from me, if He really exists, why life is turning out this way and how to cope. I also think I have Pink Eye.

In an effort to deal with the Big Questions I have been searching the internet and one of the things I ran across was Natalie D’Arbeloff’s book “The God Interviews.”

Well, I should back up here. I actually discovered Natalie’s book at Les’ website Where The Walls Are Soft. She did a review of the book and that is how I discovered it.

So I perused Natalie’s site and decided that this book would be a good addition to my library. And I ordered it.

Meanwhile, I was bitching complaining on my site about how God is no where to be found and He is throwing crap my way left and right. So Les, being the good friend that she is, sent me a small package. And since she lives in Canada and I live in the US it took a little longer than I thought it would take to arrive. But I had no idea what it was. And then it arrived. Yay!

It was a small tin of mints. Because I had complained that even though I am in huge turmoil with the big issues, I also have small issues that drive me nuts. Like the following: sometimes I just want to have a mint while I sit in the car.

But then my kids smell the mint and I have to share. And sometimes my middle kid will ferret out the mints in the car, in the diaper bag, in my coat pocket, wherever they are as if we are on a desert island with no food but the mints and we will have to decide who we are going to cannibalize next. You know, after we run out of the mints.

So Les sent me a tin of mints. Just for me. And she put a yellow post-it note on the lid that said these are just for Cardiogirl. Not Katie and not Allison. Just Cardiogirl. Isn’t Les awesome? Yes, she is.

A little while later, she left me a comment saying she was sending me another item to cheer me up but this one was just on loan. I had no idea what this could be. And in the meantime, Les left some comments that made me laugh. She was a tad concerned that it sounded like she was going to send me pot over the border, you know, a little something to cheer me up. I always laugh when she says that, because it never occurs to me that she might be alluding to drugs. It just doesn’t.

And it’s even funnier, because in my opinion, pot is not really a heavy duty drug. Sure, it’s illegal and it will get you busted. But to me it’s illegal-lite. Like there’s always a very small chance that you can talk your way out of it and you might actually get a “Get Out of Jail Free” card. I know that’s not the case, but that’s what I think.

And pot has a hippy vibe to it. So Les just becomes my fun, free-flowing, hippy friend who’s trying to make me happy. Legally or illegally, whatever it’s gonna take.

So I was patiently awaiting my second item from Canada, from Les, when my book arrived from Natalie. Score! Nice book, Natalie.

And then I received an email from Les saying, essentially, “Um, betch? I sent you MY copy of Natalie’s book on loan. AND I bought YOU a copy. But Natalie told me you bought your OWN copy. So now we have three copies. Shet bag.”

So I laughed.

And Les laughed.

And maybe God even laughed, too.

Hence, the contest.

Les and I thought it would be fun to run a caption contest to give away the third book. Yes, that’s right. You can have your own AUTOGRAPHED copy (for FREE!) of Natalie’s book “The God Interviews.” And all you have to do is provide a caption for the following cartoon, which appears in Natalie’s book.

That’s God on the flying carpet. Isn’t that cool? I know! He’s thinner than I expected. But He owns His chrome dome, no comb-over for Him. I would expect Him to be confident enough to own a chrome dome. And apparently He delivers, as evidenced by this cartoon.

So leave a caption in the comment section. Enter as many times as you like. If a thought strikes you next week, come back and leave it in the comment section.

Visit Natalie’s site and ooh and ahh over her drawings.

Visit Les’ site and see her side of the story.

We will run this contest for three weeks until March 1. At the end of each week (the week of February 11th, the week of February 18th and the week of February 25th) we will pick a semi-finalist. Then on March 1, 2008 we will post the top three captions.

And this is where it gets interactive, baby. You, the awesome readers, will vote via poll, for the winning caption of the three.

And that is the person who will win the AUTOGRAPHED book. Easy cheesy, eh?
