Kellogg’s why must you forsake me?
I know I’ve extolled the virtues of Kellogg’s All Bran Yogurt Bites. Love it — that’s my go-to cereal. You get a heaping spoonful of bran goodness with the sweet surprise of yogurt nuggets.
Although I will admit, the bran flakes are getting pretty big. I’ve seen some flakes the size of a half dollar.
I’m not fond of biting the flake in half before I eat it, but that’s a small price to pay. I love this cereal so much I’d be willing to cut the flakes with a knife.
But in the last six months I’ve had increasing difficulty finding my beloved Yogurt Bites. They used to be at Meijer which is where I buy my groceries, but then they disappeared.
I did find them at Kmart but as you may recall, Kmart does not have Fuji apples — bastards — so I had to make a special trip just to get my cereal. Again, a small price to pay and I did that happily for a while.

But eventually I went back to Kmart and my cereal was gone.
Just recently I purchased the last three boxes at Kroger on sale. An ominous sale that said close out. When I asked the cashier what, exactly, close out meant he informed me that I was purchasing the last three boxes in the store.
Standing before him with a ten dollar bill in my hand, I flashed through the five stages of grief, but mostly I’ve been hanging onto disbelief. How can this be?
When I got home I turned to Amazon who told me, in no uncertain terms, that I could “sign up to be notified when this item becomes available.” But it’s never going to be available. That’s what the lady at the 800 number told me.
That’s right. I called the 800 number on the box to get to the bottom of this. And that is when I received the crushing news that the product had been discontinued. I asked the chick on the end of the line if that meant sales were low. She said yes.
I asked her how that could be. Couldn’t they give it another chance with a stronger ad campaign?
She said she was very sorry, but they’re not making it anymore. It’s gone. She suggested I try Special K Fruit and Yogurt Cereal in the purple box, but then said it’s not as good as the Yogurt Bites! AUUUGGHH!
Man what a let down.
I know. There are starving children in India who would love to eat a box of Special K whether it had fruit and yogurt in it or not. I am not a starving child. I do not live in India and that statement — however accurate — is not helpful to me.
Rest in peace Kellogg’s All Bran Yogurt Bites. Our time together was much too brief but I shall remember you fondly.

Couldn’t you have a go at making your own?
I suppose I could. But those yogurt nuggets are so hard to find. But you bring up a very intriguing prospect, Solomon. Thanks for the idea. I will be following up on this one.
That really, really sucks.
I swear I’d say 30% of the things that annoy me about moving up here is finding the same products I am very attached to. There are a ton of Kroger’s down South and up here I about squealed when I found my bread the other day…finally. I still can’t find my pasta and they only had one remotely close way in the back of the top shelf, I had to enlist the help of a random tall man, and he was very amused at my need for the pasta. I’m not sure why.
I do not cope well with change. Change is usually bad, in my experience. Eff change, man!
I’m so sorry for the loss of your yogurt bites. I’m always worried my favorite things will be discontinued. I’m most concerned for something that’s not food. I rec’d a bottle of Ciara perfume for Christmas, 1983. I know it sounds like I need to expand my horizons, but I’ve been wearing it ever since. I get a lot of compliments on it. In fact, one of my male clients sat next to me as I worked to troubleshoot his computer. I felt him sort of staring at me and then he suddenly blurted out “You smell good!” I know that sounds way creepy, but he was a really nice guy. A sweetheart. Anyway, I’m terrified that the company will stop making it one day and I’ll have to search high and low to scarf up the remaining supplies to last me the rest of my life.
I feel your pain.
I hate being prisoner to my joy. I know what you mean about the dude enjoying your smells. It does sound weird and yet, way back in the day, I had the same sort of compliments from Knowing. Now that I know more about human nature I’m done knowing — figuratively and literally.
Google “All Bran Yogurt Bites Cereal” and several places come up where you can order it by the case.
Hmm, I did find it at foodservicedirect.com but it’s $5 a box! Plus shipping. But this will determine my love and desire for the cereal, won’t it? I suppose I could exhaust the rest of the supply. They have to have the left over boxes that didn’t sell, right?
Oh! My birthday is coming up :) I think I know what I want!
I looked them up to see if I could ship them from the UK (okay ignoring postal regs at the moment!) but I couldn’t find them :(
I know, it’s a major drag.
Hey, do they sell Kellogg’s cereal in the UK? I mean, can you walk into your local grocery store and buy a box off the shelf? I assume it’s a US brand, but maybe not.
i hate when stuff i love is discontinued. i was in the supermarket yesterday evening staring at the 8ft tall mountain of kellogg’s cereal and i saw yogurt something, but i don’t think it’s all bran. i grabbed a box of the vanilla almond, but didn’t see a price. so i went to the cereal aisle and it was 3.99 and i put it back because i heard on the TV that kellogg’s has a buy one get one free coupon on their website. no time to check it out, but if there’s a coupon for 3.99 cereal, i can wait and go back, today.
now this was a hoot!!!!: “Couldn’t they give it another chance with a stronger ad campaign?” i can totally see you at the head of the table whacking a white board – complete with your cg drawings – with a pointer stick on ways to get people re-pumped up about this cereal as the men in suits look over the top of their glasses at you as they ponder the fate of kellogg’s all-bran yogurt bites.
thanks for that cg!
I think the yogurt you saw was from Special K. I’m positive the vanilla almond is Special K. I do want to try Special K Chocolatey Delight cereal; it looks like it could go either way — totally awesome and delicious or sucks donkey.
If I can find that coupon it’ll be worth it.
I do wonder, sometimes, if I could convince the execs to give it another go.
The Cardiogirl empire needs to branch out into breakfast food production. You’ve probably got the makings of your own little sweatshop. Do you have a garage or a basement to house your slaves, I mean, workers?
I’m still shocked and reeling that $10 got you 3 boxes of cereal. Even on sale. Are you living in some alternate reality or something? Cereal up here in Alberta, Canada is anywhere from $4 to $6 a box. And that’s generic brands.
Generic brands? That sucks. I just moved to Indiana and groceries and even alcohol are noticeably cheaper than in the South. I have no explanations. I made a C in Economics.
@Tim Now that is an excellent idea — my own sweatshop! I love it!
I do, indeed have a basement, and I also have
slaveschildren who could be put to work. Cereal is pricey, I must admit. The highest I’ve seen is $3.99 and that feels like highway robbery.Usually I get it for $2.99 which still gives me sticker shock, but what are you gonna do? Except create a sweatshop in your basement?
@Liz Most of the time I am down with generic; I find there’s not much of a taste difference. I think my only hold out is Kraft Mayo.
Oh, Cardiogirl, I LOVE, love, love that cereal, too. The same thing had happened to me. I used to buy it at Walmart. Then, they stopped carrying it. Kroger still had it but it was always over $4 a box and that is beyond what I will spend for cereal (I’d never survive in Canada, would I?). I would pick it up when I was at Meijer, but that is in a town 25 minutes away and I don’t get there often.
So sad to hear it will be discontinued. I will be looking for it at Big Lots (since they often sell off the overstock of discontinued items). Do they have Big Lots in Michigan?
If you want, I’ll write a letter protesting their executive decision and proclaiming my undying love of that cereal!!!
That’s interesting that you could get it at Walmart. I tried, in vain, for months and months to get it at Walmart because I knew it would be much cheaper. They never did carry it. Punks.
You and me both — I couldn’t handle spending more than $4 a box for cereal. I do have Big Lots over here. I’ve never been in one, but I think it’s time to broaden my horizons.
